Agri Tourism Concept is just that Urban Tourists go to the farmer’s home, stay and have a relaxing and peaceful recreation from all the rustle and bustle of their everyday life. Tourists can recreate themselves by understanding and playing various rural games like viti dandu, marbles, ligori etc., fly kites, enjoy eat authentic food what the farmers eat. buy fresh farm produce, understand the local culture and enjoy the folk songs and dance. In short, a farmer’s home and farm is converted into the best picnic spot.

In turn, the Farmers maintain their home and farm hygiene, greet the new tourists with warm welcome, sell their farm produce at a better price and earn livelihood all year round. This concept has helped to conserve and enhance village environment, give farmers sustainable supplementary source of income whereby they don’t just have to rely on farming for their livelihood. This concept also provides local employment.

The concept of Agri-tourism is a direct expansion of ecotourism, which encourages visitors to experience agricultural life at first hand. Schools and Colleges also can visit agri-tourism sites for an educational trip to get knowledge of different farming activities. Different kind of patients with chronic diseases can also visit and stay to such sites; being close to nature, their faster recovery can happen.

Under the MTDC Tourism Policy 2016, Government has passed the resolution for agri and rural tourism. Under the Secion 4- Strategy for Growth of Tourism Sector, 4.5.2: Action Plan, 17th Point, it states that At least one educational tour/visit to such units to be made mandatory for students from class V to class X.

Two Strong Bodies Agri Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) and Mahashtra State Agri and Rural Tourism  Co-Operative Federation Ltd  (MART) have been formed to promote agri and rural tourism at the core-level of indian villages for the well-being of farmers.
